Race Replay
Last week saw Shared Belief bulldoze his way to the wire in record time, knocking over a second and a half off the previous time and just holding off the hard-luck Overdraft in his wake. Today, Overdraft is back after two straight runner up finishes, and he's out for that W with only two spots left to claim for the Breeders' Cup Sprint!
Rhapsody's Overdraft is the solid favorite here after just missing last week, and the strapping bay stallion is in a good spot to finally get his own free trip to the BC with only one other speed horse in the field. Dubai winner Chantilly will look for her own return trip after an unsuccessful bid last week, while Mary Lou will try to make some noise after winning her first Grade 2 stakes in her last race. Duchess ran third to her stablemate in that race and is on an appreciable uptick, running better than she has in months in stakes company. It's a jump up to Hells Bells, medal winner in both Tokyo and Rio, and a stalwart of the BC scene after failing in his bid for two sprint titles last winter. Groupie Doll returns after an unsuccessful bid for the Distaff and this Triple Tiara veteran drew the short straw of the rail, when her best running has been done outside of horses. Impulsive is slotted in right next to the other speed in the race and is double digits, despite having won his last race over a route of ground against Grade 3 company.
The sun has been shining like it's still the heart of summer and even as the temperatures begin to drop at night, it hasn't cooled off during the day and the dirt course is fast as they come after two straight weeks of clinging mud. Our seven speedy mares and stallions are sure to appreciate the clear skies and swift going, and it'll be an even playing field this week as we line them up for this year's Lost in the Fog Stakes!
