Race Replay
Last week, Brazen steamrolled her older competition with a decisive come from behind victory, blowing past her rivals with a devestating turn of foot that's served her well in graded stakes past. Now, only five fillies and mares remain to contest the final free spot in the Filly & Mare Turf, and it's anyone's guess as to who will come out on top in this year's Gentildonna Handicap!
Acorn Stakes winner Under The Mask leads from the rail and the post parade, and she's in the same spot that won her a Classic on dirt and that has been kind to front runners in the past. Epsom Oaks winner Dapper Doll is the far outside but shares the betting crowd's enthusiam, setting up a unique confrontation rarely seen on the forum - two classic winners from dirt and turf duking it a Breeders' Cup prep! Kyoto Kitten isn't being left out, however, and she'll make her Breeders' Cup return after a good showing last week, figuring to be the cog in the engine that could derail Under The Mask's clean lead. Gracie has shown considerable improvement on the turf after a string of underwhelming performances on dirt, and it seems she's finally found her niche after storming to a second place finish in her first BC turf prep. Chiricahua rounds the field and while the daughter of BC Classic winner Barbaro hasn't shown a ton of talent in her last outings, she still has the gumption to try and figures to be rolling at the end with so many fowardly placed horses in the field.
The temperature has taken a decided drop on the East Coast, but it's the weather all horses and racing fans love, with clear blue skies and balmy breezes that keep the flies off and the heat down. With only five to contest this final prep for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, it's time for our fillies and mares to throw it all down on the track with one last battle for the winner's circle. It's time to let em roll in the Gentildonna Handicap!
