IT'S SPRING so that means spring classics and spring bebies! Though honestly most of these were hexed months ago and some have started racing, I'm just horrible at putting things together in a timely manner, HA HA.
-----------------
Akiba's Idol
Let's start this off with a non-bred horse LOL. This gal was a birthday present from the ever fabulous Anomaly and matches another black overo from her she gave me last year! She's named after this frankly amazing video game called "Akiba's Trip" that you should all play, because it's ridiculous but awesome. Akihabara is a fangirl's/fanboy's dream district in Japan and I couldn't totally not name a horse after it. This girl gave me a halter pose at first asking, even though Halter isn't my thing (is it sacriligeous to say that on here?!) and isn't crazy hyper like some of my other mares. She hasn't won yet but she's had several solid thirds and a fourth and shows a nice affinity for racing so I'm hoping she'll grow into a top distaffer before the year's out.
Black Sails
Here's that Morning Star x Swashbuckle colt, and no I haven't watched the show of the same name yet BUT IT'S ON THE LIST HA HA. His sire is pirate named so I had to keep that going, you see, I'M CLEVER. But this guy was sort of a last minute "Well I couldddd do this, I coulddd do that..." when I was deciding breedings, and I was curious to see what the outcross could do. He's one of my first full pedigreed 3rd gens with his maternal damsire a dual BC winner and his grandsire a Triple Crown winner. BONUS: He has some awesome gaits so I'm hoping after his racing career, he can be stellar in other show rings as well. So far he has the temperament and willingness to do pretty much anything ever.
Cyclone Princess
This girl is the result of crossing Seattle Slew with Zenyatta - with a sad backstory :c The real Zenyatta finally had a filly after two colts, and gosh she was a cutie. Unfortunately, "Z Princess" passed away after a paddock accident and I hexed this girl as a tribute to her. So far she's been bang up on the track, placing third three times before finally breaking her maiden in her fifth start. Her sire is a Kentucky Derby/Belmont Stakes/BC Classic winner and her mother... tried REALLY hard in the Breeders' Cup races lol. So she's one of the blue bloods of my stable and I really hope she keeps that upward swing. Kentucky Derby bound next year?! At least Oaks, that's for sure.
Dracarys
After Anomaly bred her Siren's Soliloquy to my Eclipse and got a banging filly, how could I not want one too?! Except I bred a colt first because I so desperately wanted to name a horse Dracarys, HA HA. Well this dude has lived up to that fire in his name because he's only been out of the money once and has won four of eight races to graduate to Grade III already! He tends to devestate his foes with a furious come from behind rally much like his mother, but has that "Never say die" fire of his sire. The year end goal is the Breeders' Cup Marathon that his father won last year or perhaps the Turf. Either way he's gonna be fun to race!
Gambit
This filly was returned to me after Appy dispersed her Thoroughbreds - she's the product of what once was a dream mating between Amiguri and Gentiva but I don't know if I'll end up keeping her! She's a silly little horse and doesn't seem bothered by much so if she doesn't excel at racing, (though her half siblings have all been fantastic, honestly!) I may train her up and just sell her. I feel bad keeping all these nice horses when racing is getting so popular - I feel like I'm stealing them! :c
Halberd
This filly is the daughter of Ava's Bardowick and my Yuuku, as I always admired that stud and was keen for a foal from him. Yuuku is one of my so-called "loveable losers" - she's got ONE win in over 50 stars and hasn't won for the last two and a half years; she seems to enjoy placing fifth a lot. Her filly has inherited that penchant so far - in five starts, she already has three fifths with only a single win. She isn't quite up to par stats wise with the other horses she's been competing against, so she's going to stay in allowance company, for a while, I think. I'm not sure if she's a good fit for my stable yet but we'll see. She's a looker so I'm hoping she starts to get it together one of these days. She did come in second earlier today so maybe that's closer than I think... hopefully. Maybe. WHO KNOWS.
Kindle
I liked Dracarys and Muse of Fire so much I bred another full sibling, OH HO. Though honestly I wanted a filly named Kindle and I love this cross so much I thought WHY NOT. Kindle takes more after her father where she likes to be on or near the front, and she seems like she's poised to takeover from her sister as the new speedball of the family. She's a very fiery filly in personality, actually harder to handle than her brother and seems like she has the disposition of a stallion more than a mare. But that's mares for you, they tend to be more than slightly crazy hahaaaa CHICKS, AMIRITE?
Overdraft
You ever find a picture where you're like OH HEY I REALLY NEED TO HEX THAT and then you do? Well I did. I follow this wonderful OTTB retraining program on Facebook and they put up a handsome gelding with the same weird socks as this dude and I had to hex him! I have so many stallions but honestly, WHO CARES this dude is pretty sweet. He won at first asking to show some major grit and he's got such a nice personality. He even gave me a halter pose because WHO DOES THAT IN MY BARN HAHA. So far he's won both of his races so he's off to a great start - though I am starting to get annoyed that all my boys are better than my girls. >_>
Redeemed
This gal is the daughter of Royal Ransom and Anamoly's stud Duality. She's another one of my 3rd gens and she has quite the pedigree! Her grandsire is Animosity, winner of the 2013 BC classic and her damsire is Barbaro, winner of the 2012 BC Classic, so this filly has classic blood on both sides of her pedigree. She's a bit rambunctious but seems very eager to learn and doesn't have any vices that I can tell. I'll probably point her towards next year's Spring Classics - I don't like to make huge Breeders' Cup goals with my babies, but if she displays the talent that I hope she does, I can't make any promises! She's just too good looking to not get excited about her.
Unrequited
This is one quirky filly. She's the daughter of my Ansia and Sword Play, and is a router through and through. However, instead of looking around her, she tends to crane her head upward when she walks, taking in the birds and the planes and the Supermen oh myyyy. She's the most inquisitive horse I've ever had and has to investigate EVERYTHING before she'll even think about doing something - she had to check out every single object in the living room before she'd even try to stand still and love on the hand. She's a very good natured horse all the same and is quite cheerful after she figures everything out in the room. We'll see how she reacts to the track... there's a lot more than a cuckoo clock around the backstretch haha.
Warlord
For the longest time, I was the only trainer without a Man o War foal AND HE'S MY STALLION LOL. His progeny have been crazy good and crazy fast, with one setting several stakes records in last year's spring classics, so damn it I had to have one! I crossed my homeboy with Anomaly's crack Vermillion and got this solid colt. So far he hasn't disappointed! He's won only once in an optional claimer but has four seconds and a third and only been out of the money twice. He's one of those need the leads or he'll dieeeee (but not really die, just not run his race) so he can be finicky - but again that's most of his sire's offspring so he's just a quirky kinda colt.
War Chimes
Why stop at one Man o War baby when I could have TWO?! I've been craving a baby from Akmu's Chime for a while now after breeding her in P5 to my boy, and once she converted to P4 I had to jump at the chance. Chime recently ran third in the Kentucky Oaks, and Man o War was third in the 2012 Kentucky Derby, so you see the idea. War Chimes is a nice leggy filly but lacks the craziness of her brother and father, so I'm hoping she inherited Chime's less monstrous personality traits haha. Man o War kids can be HUGE buttmunches (pretty sure I hexed all of them, so maybe it's just something about me!) but so far War Chimes is relatively calm and hasn't tried to eat anyone yet. Plus she's a flashy chestnut and you CANNOT go wrong with any sort of chrome on red, my friends.
