Welcome to the Belmont Stakes, the test of champions located at beautiful Belmont Park. Two weeks ago, we witnessed history - Athena Watchover became the first filly ever to win a Triple Crown race on SS when she defeated Kentucky Derby winner Prince of Thorns in a stretch long battle to the finish. The two best three year olds on SS return for a final battle in the spring classics, with Prince of Thorns seeking revenge against his chestnut rival and Athena looking to stamp herself as the best filly in SS history with a win in the mile and a half contest. It promises to be a battle the likes of which we may never see again as the road to the Triple Crown ends on June 6!

Three weeks ago we witnessed history - Athena Watchover became the first filly to ever win a Triple Crown race, taking the Preakness Stakes in stakes record time to smash her own sire's record. She denied Kentucky Derby winner Prince of Thorns his own shot at greatness, leaving the dream of a Triple Crown to slumber until next spring - but opening the door for a battle of champions coming into the 12 furlong Belmont Stakes.
Athena Watchover is the 2 year old filly champion and Prince of Thorns is the 2 year male champion - Kentucky Derby winner vs Kentucky Oaks winner, each finishing second to the other in the most important races of the spring classics. While these two will obviously be the stars of the show, they're not alone - 9 other horses have appeared to do battle with these titans, including several newcomers in the form of star up and comers Sass Street Wonder and Desperado, both of whom have compiled impressed records before coming to a head with the big boys. With history on the line, 11 horses will enter the gate in the storied Belmont Stakes with 12 furlongs between them and the record books.
The final race of the Triple Crown begins now.
