Hello fellow show horse owners! Here is everything you'll need to know about showing horses in the qualifying rounds and in the Olympics. If you read through all of this and have any questions or concerns, please post here or PM a mod or admin!
If you're looking for information about racing, that's in another thread!
How to make it to the Olympics
A world tour event will be starting soon (May 2nd, to be exact) which will consist of five stops. There will be qualifying rounds for all of the Olympic disciplines at each of the five stops. The top horses in each discipline's qualifying round will earn a spot in the final Olympic shows. After our stops around the world, all of the horses that qualified will make their way to Tokyo, Japan in June!
If you're wondering just exactly where we're going and when we'll be there, check out this thread!
The Olympic shows are by invitation only. Only horses that are qualified may enter. At all of the world tour stops, the TOP 4 horses placed in each discipline will qualify to compete in the Olympic show for that discipline. Since there are five stops in our tour, that means there will be 20 horses competing in each discipline in the Olympics. While each qualifying show will limit the number of entries to 4 per person, the final Olympic shows will not have a per person limit. This is so that, by the time we near the end of the tour, there are still enough non-qualified horses left to participate in the qualifying rounds.
PLEASE NOTE: NONE of the qualifying rounds reward show points or stats (racing is different). This is so that Champion and Grand Champion horses may compete. The Olympics are about finding the best of the best, so pick some of your top horses to compete with!
ADDITIONAL NOTE: All horses who won medals in 2016 are disqualified from competing again in any discipline they won a medal in last time. Check out this thread of all the 2016 medalists!
Choose a country...
Remember, if your horse qualifies for an Olympic discipline at any of the stops, you may choose a country (from the continent or region that it qualified in) that it will represent in the Olympics! This just adds a little flavor and makes it feel more like a worldwide event. If you are wondering what countries are included in the stop or just want some inspiration, check out this list!
If your horse qualifies, please post in the finished show or PM a mod or admin to let them know which country you've chosen for your horse. If you don't pick a country after your horse qualifies, it will be assigned a random one before the Olympic shows open.
The Olympic disciplines
Here on Seeing Stars, we take some liberty when adjusting real-world events to fit the forum and its members. So, our Olympic Games include many more disciplines instead of just Dressage, Three-Day Eventing, and Show Jumping. This year we are excited to open up three new disciplines which were not included last time: Barrel Racing, Reining, and Western Pleasure! The other disciplines include: Halter, In-Hand, Dressage, Eventing, Novice Eventing, Show Jumping, and Show Hunters.
NOTE: MANY of the disciplines have extra requirements or will be judged differently than usual. Please make sure to read the post below for the disciplines you're interested in, which will detail what is different from the regular everyday disciplines you're used to.
The following schedule will ideally be what happens. We can't tell the future, but we'll do our best to stick to it and stay on course!
NOTE: While there is one official judge/host for each discipline at all of the stops, additional judges can and will contribute scores as well, though it is not a set requirement. However, ALL final Olympic shows must be judged by at least two people. If you want more information about how the disciplines are judged, there will be a post below with all of that information.
